Incorporating more fruits and vegetables in your diet will benefit your heart greatly. Fruits and vegetables are linked to healthy hearts. Numerous studies have shown that vegans and vegetarians have minimal risk of heart disease because they have loads of fruits and vegetables in their diet and no animal protein or fats. Avoid canned fruits and veggies as they are high in sodium and they have the same nutritional benefits as fresh fruits and veggies. Eating potato with the skin on and apple with the skin on adds more value to your meal as the skin provides extra fiber in your diet.

Adding fish to your diet can also be beneficial to your heart. Healthy fish like salmon, mackerel, tuna and sardines which are rich in Omega 3 fatty acids help in keeping your heart healthy. Fish can be eaten up to 3 times a week for a healthy heart. Also adding various nuts to your diet is a great way to get your Omega 3 acids.
Eating healthy for a healthy heart means changing your diet completely which is an abrupt change. Develop a heart healthy meal plan that works for you according to your needs and taste. Start the plan gradually and try to stick to it. It is okay to diverge from your meal plan and have a snack or two to satisfy your cravings. Not giving yourself opportunity to satisfy your cravings will eventually result in you completely abandoning your heart healthy meal plan. Design your meal plan to include a bigger meal during the day when you need the most energy and a light meal in the evening. Also skipping meals is a bad idea since it will make your body crave for more unhealthy food in large quantities. Studies have shown that obese people often indulge in skipping meals followed by binge eating.
Slow and gradual implementation of a heart healthy meal plan is the best way to incorporate good foods in your diet and eliminate unhealthy foods for a long and healthy life.
